"What are you going to do with that major?"
"What are you doing now that you've graduated?"
"Do you have a job lined up?"
"How are you going to make a living?"
"What are you going to do with your life?"
If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me one of those questions in the last four years, more specifically the last couple of months, I'd be a rich man. Sh*t I'd probably have enough money to retire at 22 and avoid having to worrying like these entirely. Frustrating, irritating, repetitive, exhausting; any of those adjectives would suffice in describing the impact those questions have had on me. However for the first time in quite possibly my whole life, I don't mind not having an answer to any damn one of them.
Don't believe me? Well I could careless! (That’s my favorite illogical idiom—and only a damned Philosophy major would have a favorite illogical idiom...).
But just to prove it to myself I'm packing up a Tortuga backpack (check it out if you want a good travel pack) with less belongings than I've ever traveled with in my life, and I'm going on a little expedition. I don't know when I'm coming back, so don't ask. I don't know what my plans are when I return, so don't ask. I don't know what's in store for me and where this life will take me, so don't ask. Just let me try and find out for myself. I've spent the last 12 years of my life learning in a classroom. Now it's time for me to learn in a whole new way.
That being said I'd love it if some of you experienced some of my journey alongside me, by following this blog or whatever you wanna call it. It won't be your typical blog consisting of me narrating my everyday activities and experiences. That's been done, and it's boring. I can't tell you exactly how I will be structuring this, as I still haven't quite decided, but I can promise you that every post will be different and unique. Maybe I'll post a story from my travels. Maybe I'll post one of my "profound" philosophical thoughts (shoutout my fellow Phil majors). Maybe I'll just post a poem or something cheesy like that. I can't promise you that you'll enjoy everything that I share with you, but I can promise, that at the very least you will be fairly entertained by some of it. Just give it a chance (but I won't take it personally if you read this first one, vomit in the back of your mouth and never talk to me again). So I've grabbed my one bag and my one-way ticket to Sweden, and here I go...better yet here we go.
Cheers!
